Cover Bands

Last night Jen, Larry and I went to see a friend's band play at a Moose Club in St.Clair Shores. They were good. They took someone else's music and interpreted it in their own style, which I might add, was soulful. They played the music as if they really enjoyed it, not as if they had to fulfill expectations of the people listening. It was very refreshing and inspiring.
After, we stopped in Fraser, by Larry's request, to catch the end of another cover band's set. This band was called The Killer B's(I can't, for the life of me remember the name of the other band!). They played the music with such precision and care that I thought I was listening to a very loud radio. All the instrument sounds were accurate, as well as the musical phrasings. It was very impressive. It's interesting to see, coming from a musician's standpoint, how two different bands can be very good at their craft and receive little or no acknowledgement because they don't conform to new pop radio standards like N'Sync, Miss Spears, or Jay Z. I guess all this goes back to the ideas about being commercial and selling out, or being yourself. I think I'd take the risk of being myself so I could create something that I know will still be around after fifteen minutes. Who really wants to be the next flavor of the month? Not me. I couldn't care less how much money I could earn.

Happy Birthday Joe!

Today is my brother's birthday. The boy, er man is 25. Happy Birthday. I remember 25...seems like only yesterday, but of course it wasn't. Is it me, or does it seem that the older we get, the faster time spins away from us? Maybe as we acquire more responsibilities and the NEED to fill up our lives with so much extra garbage, it appears as if there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done? I think that I will refuse to: get any older, take on any more responsibilities, and allow others put any more responsibilities on me. Of course then I will probably be bored out of my skull!
One more thing-I banged my elbow the other day. I know, I know- it HURTS! Somewhere between a laugh and a cry. This made me think, "I would rather get my armpit tattooed than bang my elbow." (Actually my friend Mark assured me that I wouldn't want to do this!) But then my thought shifted to, "I would rather have my armpit tattooed than listen to Rod Stewart." Weird, but true.

Thanks ALOT Eric!!

Okay, I get an email from my brother's friend Eric to check out his blog. So I do, but I can't respond to his blog without signing up myself-and when I sign up, I also get MY own blog. Oh boy, you guys are in trouble now! Anyway, thanks Eric. This is my first time doing this sort of thing, so I guess it becomes an experiment. Hopefully it will lead to some interesting and enlightening(ahem) topics. I'm an open person, so it could get real INTERESTING! We'll see...
